DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Students entering FIU without an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida Community College must complete the "University Core Curriculum" requirements. (See http://undergrad.fiu.edu/advising/cv.html).

  2. All student admitted Fall 2009 and after and all other students electing to change to the new curriculum will be subject to the College of Arts and Sciences foreign language requirement.

  3. All students entering any University within the Florida State University System with fewer than 60 credit hours are required to earn at least nine (9) credit hours prior to graduation by attending one or more summer terms at a university within the State University System.

  4. Effective Fall 1984, the State Board of Education established minimum score standards (CLAST) for the awarding of the Associate of Arts degree and for admission to upper division status in Florida's state universities. Students admitted into the upper division status, but missing the completion of any section of this exam or any other lower division requirement must complete these requirement or may face restricted enrollment in upper division courses.

  5. The Board of Governors has mandated that all baccalaureate programs in the State of Florida public universities develop Academic Learning Compacts (ALCs) that are student learning outcomes in three areas: (1) discipline-specific knowledge, (2) communication, and (3) critical thinking. The expectation is that each program will assess those student learning outcomes. The ALCs for the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice are available online at http://cj.fiu.edu/ALC.pdf.
