After completing 60 semester hours of lower division course work, a student is eligible to apply for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) program. Students who have met the General Education lower division requirements and who have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and above will qualify for admission to the program. Students must complete 60 credit hours at the 3000 level or above. The 60 credit hours consist of 24 credit hours of required courses, 24 credit hours of criminal justice electives and 12 credit hours of general electives. The BSCJ program is available at both University Park and Biscayne Bay campuses and is also offered fully online (see http://online.fiu.edu).
DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Students entering FIU without an Associate of Arts degree from a Florida Community College must complete the "University Core Curriculum" requirements. (See http://undergrad.fiu.edu/advising/cv.html).
Independent research course may not be taken outside of criminal justice expect with written permission of the Director.
Any student who was admitted with a foreign language deficiency must successfully complete two semesters of instruction in one foreign language prior to graduation. Students who have successfully completed two years of a foreign language in high school will need to request that their transcript to be forwarded to FIU to waive this requirement.
All students entering any University within the Florida State University System with fewer than 60 credit hours are required to earn at least nine (9) credit hours prior to graduation by attending one or more summer terms at a university within the State University System.
Effective Fall 1984, the State Board of Education established minimum score standards (CLAST) for the awarding of the Associate of Arts degree and for admission to upper division status in Florida's state universities. Students admitted into the upper division status, but missing the completion of any section of this exam or any other lower division requirement must complete these requirement(s) or may face restricted enrollment in upper division courses.
